School Administrator Perceptions of Micro-Credentialing as Professional Learning: A Design-Based Approach (Poster 18)

Sun, April 14, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

It is critical that states and districts provide all principals equal access to high-quality professional learning. One emerging strategy that could address the inherent challenges is micro-credentialing. Through a design-based research project, we worked as a team of content experts and researchers to develop and study the micro-credentialing course in tandem. Participants in this study consisted of school- and district-level administrators who completed one module of the leadership course and answered an online survey to collect their attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions toward their experience. Overall, the participants in this study had positive reactions to the micro-credentialing module, the learning platform, and the applicability of content. These high ratings demonstrate the potential benefits of online microcredentialing for administrators.
