This inquiry stems from my experiences as part of this group, as a youth and later a teacher of one such program. Considering this group of Latines, most often the group conjured by the umbrella term, erasing Black and Indigenous peoples (Hernández, 2022; Pulido, 2017), provides means to see both relationships to place and racialization together, to consider the ways that racialized vulnerability supports the U.S. settler colonial nation-state (Byrd, 2011; Day, 2015).
