This study aims to investigate the experiences of Latina community college transfer students, their support networks, and sense of community at selective research-intensive institutions. Using semi-structured interviews and McMillan and Chavis’ (1986) sense of community (SOC) theoretical model, four topics will be explored: Latina transfers’ experiences, interactions with support networks, SOC experience, and support networks’ role in cultivating SOC. Through our research, we expand beyond the bounds of existing theoretical frameworks to highlight the resilience and activism of this population within their institutional contexts. The findings of this work have research, theoretical, and practical implications that will advance our knowledge of how to provide better support to Latina transfers.
