Fri, April 12, 4:55 to 6:25pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This research explores factors that influence the academic achievement of diverse learners, namely students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SWSLD) attending online schools. This study sought to understand their preparation, skills, and practices related to teaching SWSLD in online schools. A needs assessment was conducted studying the perceptions of online general and special education middle school teachers across nine public charter schools. Teachers indicated a lack of preparation during their pre-service training program, new teacher training, and ongoing professional development in their current teaching assignment.
