Investigating Elementary Teachers’ Perceptions of Using ChatGPT to Generate Integrated Assessments (Poster 29)

Sun, April 14, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

ChatGPT is one of many resources educators might consider using for lesson planning and assessment development. As consumers and professionals, educators determine if such resources yield materials that are credible, accurate, appropriate for students, and meet educational purposes. The purpose of this mixed methods case study was to investigate elementary teachers’ experiences using ChatGPT as a tool to generate integrated assessments. Twenty-two elementary teachers in a graduate course on advanced pedagogy and assessment used ChatGPT to generate assessments for three integrated lessons. Pre/post surveys and assessment reflections were collected and analyzed. Significant shifts in participants’ perspectives and usage behaviors were identified, and participants described important benefits, concerns, and takeaways after using ChatGPT as an assessment development tool.
