Trans students, particularly those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC), face verbal and physical harassment all too often in educational settings. Using the 2015 US Trans Survey, this mixed methods study explored BIPOC trans students and their experiences in the K-12 setting. The quantitative phase investigated the relationship between verbal and physical harassment by race/ethnicity, while the qualitative phase explored the types of experiences for BIPOC trans students. Quantitative findings show that there is a significant association between race and physical harassment. Qualitative findings show that BIPOC trans students are verbally harassed in schools, especially by adults, and that had mental, physical, and educational impacts.
