Teacher Professional Development and Its Impact on Student Academic Achievement: An Evidence Gap Map

Sun, April 14, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The objective of this evidence gap map (EGM) is to show evidence on programs for professional development of in-service teachers (TPD) and their impact on student academic achievement. This EGM is based on a meta-analysis already conducted by the authors, that included 143 experimental, high-quality studies. The interactive EGM shows the intersection of TPD goals (y-axis) and subject outcomes (x-axis) and allows to filter the studies in order to select interventions matching certain criteria of interest (e.g., country, grade level). Results showed that PCK is the most studied TPD goal, while some TPD goals have not been evaluated yet. Most of TPD goals have mixed results, showing both positive and negative effects, and small to large impacts.
