Unlike traditional research publications, scholarly podcasts are an innovation for knowledge dissemination to professionals in a field. Informed by Rogers’ (1962) Theory of Diffusion of Innovation, we offer scholars ways to consider the affordances and challenges of podcasts as a medium for communicating knowledge. Through a podcast we host, produce, and promote, we aim to address a pressing issue in educational research: how to democratize the acquisition of research knowledge for practitioner audiences in ways that are free, accessible, and useful. Leaning on action research to inform our thinking (Rowell & Hong, 2017), we develop a model to support scholars’ conceptualization, development, and promotion of their own podcast. Podcasts can help to shape a more just future of knowledge dissemination.
