The Perception of Student Teachers of Their Need for Multicultural Education in Classroom Management Training

Fri, April 12, 9:35 to 11:05am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The increased diversity of student populations in school contexts leads to challenges student teachers experience in their classroom management. Therefore, teacher educational institutes need to think about the consequences this have for the teacher training curriculum. This study is focused on an investigation of both student teachers’ challenges concerning this topic, and the support they experience at the workplace. The preliminary results show that student teachers struggle with their CM in multicultural classroom. Most of them are working in vocational education and feel less prepared by teacher education. However, most student teachers feel supported by colleagues at the internship school. Moreover, this support was drawn to (informal) conversations with colleagues, and lesson observations.
