We leverage self-determination theory to investigate how institutions can bolster
teaching-faculty’s influence by satisfying their needs for autonomy, competence, and
relatedness. We found that teaching-faculty’s needs-satisfaction mediated the relationship between their occupational supports and influence. These results have implications for how to
increase the quality and quantity of teaching-faculty’s influence.
