This poster identifies core skills, such as reading, problem solving, and metacognitive regulation, that build the fundament for acquiring proficiency in digital literacies and adapting to new technologies. We outline theoretical accounts of digital literacies, evaluate their commonalities and differences, and examine empirical evidence, particularly with regards to how core skills affect the acquisition and operation of digital literacies. We also highlight challenges for teaching core skills of digital literacies and future research areas.
