Sat, April 13, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

WestEd is conducting a large-scale randomized controlled trial (RCT) of MathSpring, a technology-based learning environment that offers personalized content, remedial tutoring, and affective support for students and learning analytics reports for teachers. From Fall 2020-Spring 2023, we ran the RCT with three cohorts of 5th- and 6th-grade mathematics teachers in Massachusetts (80 teachers total; 41 treatment; 39 control). Treatment teachers used MathSpring during the study year, and control teachers used their existing instructional practices. The primary outcome measure was the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) assessment; we collected additional data through student and teacher surveys, teacher instructional logs, teacher and administrator interviews, and in-person observations. The analysis will be completed by March 2024 in time for reporting at AERA 2024.
