This paper proposal aims at sharing the results of my Ph.D. research that sought to understand the processes of identity formation of African-descent female teacher educators who teach in Physics teacher education programs in Brazil. Through the understanding that the teacher educators are not homogeneous subjects, bringing them to this research meant to recognize specificities that mark their professional work and constitute their identities. The concepts of identity, race and gender were fundamental sociological categories in the context of this research. This analysis revealed how much the experiences in the personal and social levels are interconnected in the constitution of oneself, as women, blacks, and teacher educators in Brazil – a recognizably sexist and racist country.
