Sun, April 14, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore P-12 school business official burnout. The researchers requested Illinois school business officials complete the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) which addresses three constructs: 1.) personal burnout, 2.) work-related burnout, and 3.) client-related burnout. Client-related burnout was related to three stakeholder groups: school board, administrators, and families/communities. Findings indicate school business officials experience burnout Work-Related burnout (M=52.29), followed by Personal (M=50.42), Client-Related Administrators (M=38.53), Client-Related School Board (M=37.06), and Client-Related Families/Communities (M=26.24). Of the negative factors associated with burnout, the most common causes were poor self-care, specifically the lack of sleep; and poor working relationships related to hiring, evaluating, and working with the school board.
