While there are multiple calls to measure equity beyond student outcomes, we know little about the extent to which agencies report such data in a way that is accessible and interoperable. To address this gap, we propose a new framework for organizing information in public education data, synthesizing recent work on equity measures (NASEM, 2019; 2020), data interoperability standards and equity-focused data use. We further demonstrate the value of our framework by applying it to data search on one large urban school district and three states with large data systems and well-established reporting structures. Our framework can be a useful guide for researchers, practitioners, and community members interested in examining the availability and accessibility of data related to educational equity.
