Investigating Participant Recruitment and Retention in Mixed-Methods Special Education Research: A Mixed-Methods Study

Fri, April 12, 9:35 to 11:05am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Sampling is a critical part of a research study, and in mixed methods research (MMR), sampling must be addressed for the quantitative, qualitative, and full MMR study. Sampling is also related to participant recruitment and retention strategies, yet limited research has investigated challenges and strategies within MMR special education (SPED). This MMR study examined the methodological components researchers report on sampling, recruitment, and retention through a scoping review for the quantitative strand, and expanded on these findings through semi-structured interviews to obtain a more complete understanding. Through merging integration, we report on challenges, effective strategies, and recommendations to the field of MMR SPED.
