Sampling in mixed methods research (MMR) holds important implications for the conduct of a study. Researchers must consider the sampling approach, sample sizes(s), the relationship between samples between the quantitative and qualitative strands, and how the findings from the sample can integrate to produce high-quality meta-inferences. Nevertheless, research on sampling is needed to further explore methodological elements that can influence sampling in MMR. This study presents findings from a qualitative case study, part of a larger MMR study, exploring sampling in MMR special education. Findings highlight challenges, considerations, and the impact of the lag time of data collection and analysis on participant responses. Based on these findings, several recommendations are advanced to the field of MMR special education.
