This quantitative study analyzed longitudinal transcript data from 2,388 vertical transfers enrolled in a research-intensive, predominantly White, public four-year institution in Louisiana. We conducted two logistic regression models to reveal influential factors of vertical transfers’ baccalaureate degree attainment and time-to-degree, respectively. Our findings indicated that gender, age, and Pell Grant eligibility were significant predictors of degree attainment, while race and in-state residency significantly predicted time-to-degree. Academic variables such as major, previous degree, and GPAs were significant predictors for both outcomes. Our findings highlighted the significance of supporting vertical transfers after they arrived at the receiving four-year institution. The post-transfer success such as timely degree attainment is crucial for promoting upward social mobility among low-income and underrepresented racial minorities.
