Support or Oppose? Analysis of the "Double Reduction" Policy Recognition

Thu, April 11, 12:40 to 2:10pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

China's "Double Reduction" policy was enacted to ease the mounting pressures of private tutoring. Despite its effectiveness in reducing academic stress, comprehensive understanding of public perception is lacking. This study leverages national online platform data for post-policy public sentiment analysis and statistical description. Results show over 60% of messages demonstrated ambiguous attitudes towards the policy, while among the clear responses, most were supportive. Support waned initially, then grew over time, and economically developed regions exhibited more frequent policy mentions but lower support levels. Public concerns largely centered around educational quality, teacher salaries, and tutoring institution refund issues, indicating areas for policy implementation improvement.
