Abstract

This study focuses on the gender differences in the sense of work-life balance of university teachers in China, from the perspective of work time allocation. For this, we collected survey data from 1,785 university teachers. The study shows (1) Male teachers work an average of about 5.5 hours more per week than female teachers. In addition to teaching time, male teachers spend more time on research, talent cultivation, administrative affairs, and social services than female teachers. (2) The sense of work-life balance of female teachers is higher than that of male teachers. (3) The total working time and administrative affairs time play a partial mediating roles between gender and the sense of work-life balance.
