The purpose of this naturalistic inquiry study is to understand how the addition of a secondary school, OA, has influenced life experiences and opportunities toward success for native Caye Caulker residents. This study explores the interrelatedness of OA and the community in which it resides through the lens of Open System Theory. This study utilizes a qualitative case study design (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016) to provide “an in-depth description of a bounded system” (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016, p. 37). Emerging themes included community support & belonging, opportunities for education, and challenges of resources.
