This study examined if monthly salaries differed significantly between male and female
tenured/tenure-track faculty at colleges in a large research public university in the South Center
region of the United States from 2001-2020. It specifically explored full-time-equivalent salary
differences across colleges. Employing statistical models on 41,058 faculty/year observations, it
accounts for temporal trends, current rank, initial rank, race, administrative experience, years
since terminal degree, degree type, recent promotions, and department. Findings suggest that
where gender disparities are significant, they typically favor male faculty. However, male salary
growth in some colleges appears slower than that for females, potentially indicating a move
toward salary equality in the future.
