Leveraging Critical Reflection to Promote Racial Literacy Among Preservice Middle-Level Teachers

Fri, April 12, 4:55 to 6:25pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The annual meeting theme of AERA 2024 is both a call for action and an invitation for educator imagination. There is also an implication of hope and possibility for a racially just global society through critical educator practice and collaborative educational research across P-20 contexts. In this qualitative study, we focus on our teacher educator practices in facilitating middle level preservice teacher engagement in critical reflection and grapple collaboratively with the possibility of leveraging critical reflection toward the advancement of racial literacies.
As middle level education researchers, we situate our present study among MLER SIG commitments to research engagement around antiracism and toward more socially just educational outcomes in middle level spaces (MLER SIG, 2020).
