Advancing Educational Justice for Students and Systems by Redefining Successful College and Health-Care Career Pathways

Abstract

This paper examines how leaders of six innovative P-20 partnerships are dismantling racial inequities left by the pandemic by redefining students' college and career pathways, including in healthcare. To address students' challenges, including postponing or dropping aspirations to support their families, leaders are collaborating to streamline pathways from middle and high school through college to careers by redefining and aligning stackable credentials, spanning Adult Education, Career and Technical Education (CTE), work-based learning, college preparation, Dual Enrollment, transfer pathways, career internships, and baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate healthcare pathways, as well as integrating longitudinal databases of students' academic and career pathways into the workforce. Intersegmental collaborations engaged educators and employers in building coherence within and across organizations towards educational justice.
