Abstract

Education can be a catalyst for individuals to transform their lives and that of their communities (Freire, 1970; Langhout, 2011). Critical consciousness raising of marginalized communities through collective action can have important implications for learning as liberation. Organization of social groups through digital-based mediums could be useful in their ability to assert humanizing narratives that challenge social injustices. Reflections about their own oppression collectively with others, facilitates marginalized individual’s deeper understanding of systems oppression, allowing them to work towards dismantling these systems (AUTHORS, 2023). This study examines the way a community of LGBTQ+ women, successfully engaged in a digital campaign to advocate for positive media representation of LGBTQ+ women, engaging in a learning community to resist and challenge negative stereotypes.
