Perspectives on Hip Hop in education have resulted in rich empirical and theoretical studies. Through a review of existing empirical and conceptual scholarship in the field, this paper analyzes the trends in current pedagogies and perspectives on Hip Hop education. Findings reveal that Hip Hop in education largely seeks to dismantle whiteness and oppression in education in pursuit of justice and liberation for students. Implications from this study assert that in imaging the future of Hip Hop in education, teachers and researchers must remain critical of how whiteness is reified in shallow interpretations of Hip Hop that perpetuate whitewashed procedures and academic standards.
