Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive synthesis of 14 research articles exploring the implementation of the National Science Foundation's Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program in universities. Our analysis aims to identify the success and challenge factors, distinguishing between its role as an interdisciplinary graduate program and a government-led performance-based funding initiative. By delving into the causal realm of each factor and finding the offsetting relationship between them, we seek to offer valuable strategies for managing other interdisciplinary government-funded programs, such as the NRT.
