Given the rapid rise of technology, researchers are calling to reconsider writing instruction. Despite challenges with integrating technology into the classroom, technology has the potential to transform instruction by individualizing learning and promoting agency. In this content analysis, we analyzed elementary teachers’ lesson plans to examine how teachers planned to integrate technology into writing instruction. Teachers described many ways they planned to integrate technology (e.g., facilitating collaboration, providing choice), but they were one step away from integrating technology in truly transformative ways (e.g., providing multilingual children with tools to use their full linguistic repertoires). In line with the conference theme, we discuss current efforts aimed at working with teachers to use technology to dismantle racial injustice during writing instruction.
