Exploring Language Teachers' Perception and Practice in the Era of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

This study investigates the perception and practice of foreign language teachers in relation to AI in the context of teaching and learning tools. The study employs a qualitative research design, incorporating in-depth interviews from six foreign language teachers to gather rich and detailed data, focusing on several key aspects including language teachers' : 1) perceptions of AI’s capabilities, limitations, and potential impacts on language instruction; 2) integration of AI tools into their pedagogical practices, identifying the specific AI applications and resources utilized, and the purposes they serve within language classrooms; 3) factors contributing to language teachers' decision-making processes regarding the adoption of AI in their instructional practices; and 4) concerns, expectations, perceived benefits, and challenges encountered in implementing AI.
