Faculty research productivity helps to produce new knowledge, though this productivity is affected by multiple factors. Surveying the factors affecting faculty research productivity through a systematic review was the main objective of this study. Using Boolean search, 265 studies from four popular databases were selected for abstract screening. Finally, 36 studies were selected for full-text text review, which covered 237,980 faculty from 29 countries worldwide. Faculty research productivity was measured through publications recorded. Faculty research productivity was affected by demographic factors (e.g., gender, rank), institutional factors (e.g., working workload, institutional supports), psychosocial (e.g., motivation, emotions) and socio-environmental factors (e.g., collegiality). These findings will help researchers in the future to further assess factors affecting faculty research productivity.
