Teaching Creatively and Teaching for Creativity: Between the Ideal and Reality

Abstract

This study focuses on primary school teachers regarding two aspects of creativity in teaching: (a) attitudes – what do teachers know, and what are their approaches to integrating creativity in teaching? (b) practices– whether, and if so, how do teachers use creativity-based practices in their teaching? We conducted a descriptive analysis of the lesson plans of 36 teachers' and conducted 11 semi-structured interviews to answer the research questions. Findings revealed gaps between teachers' attitudes and their creativity-based practices, showing that despite positive attitudes about integrating creativity in teaching, many teachers did not apply it in their teaching. These findings deepened the knowledge regarding the relationships between teachers' attitudes about creativity in teaching and their creativity-based practices.
