This paper depicts the trends of educational mobility in Hong Kong over the last four decades. We find that intergenerational persistence in education has significantly decreased over the years in Hong Kong, especially for daughters with higher educational mobility. The deeper analysis by gender further shows that the father-son persistence in education is stronger than the mother-daughter. In terms of immigrants, we find that second-generation immigrants from Mainland of China achieve higher mobility than the natives overall, despite that the natives with better parental educational backgrounds still maintain an advantage in the opportunities for tertiary education.
