Storytelling is a portal to belonging that deserves recognition as a protective factor against targeted violence and radicalization; however, the proliferation and surfacing of narratives of hate has created an educational ecosystem in which our collective resilience against hate has been compromised by the paucity of programs and weakness of existing programming at the intersection of storytelling, belonging, education, and violence prevention. In this paper, the authors introduce a novel model of radicalization â the Educational Displacement Model â and center the role of storytelling as a protective factor. The authors draw preliminary insights from an existing training program for educators and educational staff, which they have designed, that spotlights the protective role of storytelling in K-12 and higher education spaces.
