Assessing the Value of a Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Program in the Lives of Students With Intellectual Disabilities and Their Families

Sun, April 14, 9:35 to 11:05am, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Floor: Level 3, Room 303

Abstract

This research examines the efficacy of a Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary (CTP) program for students with intellectual disabilities (ID) in Southwest Florida, focusing on their readiness for employment and independent living. Addressing gaps in existing literature, it incorporates insights from students, parents, and instructors. Through this study, grounded in social constructivism and phenomenology, three key themes emerged: transformation, employability, and support. These themes reaffirm the main benefits of CPT programs and illuminate the program’s potential in mitigating educational disparities and enhancing the social skills of students with ID.
