This study explores translanguaging Play-Based Family Literacy (PBFL) experiences of Korean American children and families. Our PBFL framework includes authentic play contexts that promote naturalistic application and use of literacy practices. This study also employs suda (수다), an innovative and culturally sustaining qualitative research approach rooted in Korean culture. The findings suggest that Korean American children actively engaged in translanguaging PBFL utilizing multimodal affordances and that children demonstrated their understanding of social justice and inequity issues through PBFL. The study highlights how the suda approach helps us listen to our children’s voices in translanguaging PBFL experiences. This study provides implications regarding the benefits of PBFL for multilingual children and future early childhood translanguaging and literacy research.
