Assessing Team Teaching: A Validation Study of a Novel, Team-Based Teacher Evaluation Instrument

Sat, April 13, 11:25am to 12:55pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Team teaching involves two-or-more teachers collaborating in their teaching in innovative and strategic ways, all aimed at enhancing student learning and achievement, and all while reflecting upon teachers’ collective practice. To help team teachers’ reflective exercises, as part of a large United States (U.S.) federally-funded grant, researchers working in partnership with leaders and teachers from a very large school district developed a team-teaching evaluation instrument – the first of its kind. The goal of this study, accordingly, was to validate this instrument after its third and most widespread pilot. Psychometric and technical properties are described, key to the further improvement, implementation, and use of this instrument. Implications for others who may be interested in implementing and evaluating team-teaching are included.
