This study compared the perceived actual and preferred learning environments of 133 pre-service elementary teachers (PSETs) in science methods classes at a large public university in Texas, which is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution. Comparisons were made between the White PSETs and their Hispanic counterparts. The study utilized quantitative data obtained from the What is Happening in this Class? questionnaire. Data analysis suggests that the science methods course created a learning environment, which is as positive or more positive for Hispanic students as it is for White students.
