Research on the adjustment experiences of transfer students seldom focus on students who transfer from a regional to the flagship campus (i.e., regional transfer) of a multi-campus postsecondary institution. The goal of this study was to understand how this understudied group adjusted to the environment of the flagship campus, particularly on the factors they believe facilitate or hinder their adjustment process after transferring. Interviews with 34 regional transfer students revealed that they faced similar adjustment challenges as the broader transfer student population. They also faced unique difficulties despite assumed familiarity with the flagship campus and streamlined transfer processes. Our work contributes to a better understanding of this population with implications for practice on ways to better support their adjustment.
