Have Things Changed? Two Years Into Oklahoma’s “Anti-Critical Race Theory” Law

Thu, April 11, 4:20 to 5:50pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 100, Room 104B

Abstract

Like many states, Oklahoma passed so-called “anti-CRT” legislation, House Bill (HB) 1775, in 2021. Enforcement soon followed with the Oklahoma State Department of Education threatening the accreditation status of school districts. Reactions from teachers, districts, and state officials have been mixed. This study seeks to understand teacher perceptions as to how this bill, and related legislation/enforcement, are affecting them professionally, pedagogically, and personally. The view of participants offers insights into how teachers respond to politically-divisive legislation.
