Overview of Park in a Truck: History, Goals, Process

• In Event: Park in a Truck: Empowering Youth to Improve Their Neighborhood, One Park at a Time

Abstract

The objective of this presentation is to provide a description of Park in a Truck (PiaT) and its process including the Park Ambassador training. PiaT is a green-space development initiative in Philadelphia that helps communities transform available open space into low-cost, fast-turnaround and highly engaged urban green spaces. PiaT works with communities to design, and build parks, and train youth to program and maintain the parks. This presentation will describe the PiaT process including the history of the initiative, goals, and outcomes. The presentation will provide examples of neighborhoods in which PiaT has been implemented.
