Why We Co-Design: Applying Co-Design Methods for Inclusive Learning in Collaboration With Families and Educators

Thu, April 11, 2:30 to 4:00pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 100, Room 117

Abstract

Co-design involves engaging stakeholders, such as educators, learners, and their families, in the design process, promoting their contributions based on their unique knowledge and experiences. The workshop will feature case studies of implemented co-design approaches, including designing a computational thinking curriculum for multilingual students, AI with teachers, a culturally sustaining mobile application, inclusive design with Spanish-speaking Latine families, and co-design for equity in the development of math books. Participants will learn how to frame research project inquiries, plan design sessions, collaborate with stakeholders, and execute co-design projects. The session aims to inspire participants to integrate co-design methods into their future research work and critically consider their roles and interactions with community stakeholders to work towards equitable outcomes.
