Investigating the Possibilities of Leveraging School Climate Factors to Promote Resilience in Primary Schools

Abstract

In response to the global priority to build resilience in young people, we drew on a social-ecological approach to examine the influence of school climate on young people’s resilience, wellbeing, and moral identity. The results of structural equation modelling, involving data from 994 students in 12 primary schools, identified statistically significant relationships between school climate factors and resilience. Further, the results suggest that students’ resilience mediates the role of school climate factors on their wellbeing and moral identity. Our findings indicate that malleable features of the psychosocial school climate could be leveraged to enhance resilience and developmental opportunities in young people.
