Abstract

This study investigates the impact of family and school environments on students' stress resilience using data from the OECD's Social and Emotional Skills Study (SSES) 2019. The sample includes 15-year-old students from Finland, South Korea, China, and the United States. The study explores students' current resilience status, variations in resilience across schools, and how family and school environments affect resilience development. Hierarchical Linear Models were employed for data analysis, revealing significant gender differences in resilience across countries. Family factors, such as parent-child communication, and school factors, like teacher-student relationships, influenced students' resilience. In China, a competitive school climate weakened the positive effect of parenting expectations on students' stress resilience.
