Are there common factors for understanding underachievement in gifted Asian Americans when this is a diverse and hybrid group? Many factors including stereotypes, family, school, gender, culture, socioeconomic status, generational and individual differences may intersect and interact with the experiences of specific Asian Americans. This paper will survey the current research literature on underachievement in gifted Asian Americans and gifted Asian Americans who are gifted with one or more concurrent disabilities (twice-exceptional) and provide some suggestions for future research.
