Exploring the Relational and Critical Possibilities of Sensorial Snapshots in Education and Research

Fri, April 12, 9:35 to 11:05am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This paper will be represented in a performance piece that will interweave embodied movement, spoken word, and poetic articulations of autobiographical experience. In this paper/performance, I draw from the conceptualization of sensorial snapshots in my research to explore how embodied arts-based ways of knowing support humanizing and anti-oppressive pedagogies. During this creative and critical performance, I will invite conference participants to attend from and through their sensing bodies as we collectively sojourn three sensorial snapshots of my lived experience as a woman of color from a Punjabi-Sikh lineage. Through the offering of an artistic and experiential journey, I aim to demonstrate how embodied forms of listening and responding may promote relational and critical consciousness in education, research, and beyond.
