A racial hoax against the Roma (Gypsies) community is that there is more gender violence and that Roma men are more sexist and tolerant of gender violence than white men. Research has already dismantled such racial injustice by showing that there are sexist and violent masculinities in all communities, regardless of race. Likewise, New Alternative Masculinities (NAM) who confront violence can be found across different races and ethnic groups. However, little research has focused on Roma men’s role in overcoming gender violence. This paper presents the project “RomaNAM. Building New Alternative Masculinities (NAM) among Roma People”. Results show that access to equitable education and Roma values such as respect towards women can contribute to promoting NAM attitudes among Roma men.
