Sun, April 14, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This article systematically reviews research on the attendance outcomes of diverse types of school-based programs for improving attendance rates of PK-12 students. 25 studies of 18 different programs met rigorous criteria. 96% were randomized experiments and 4% quasi-experiments. Programs were organized in 3 categories. Particularly positive outcomes were found for Tier 2 programs. Outcomes were positive but not as large for Multi-tier programs. And Tier 1 programs didn’t have impact on student attendance. This review concludes that Tier 2 programs for at-risk students have the greatest potential to improve attendance rates.
