This research study investigates the experiences of Women of Color (WOC) aspiring leaders in mathematics education, examining historical and contemporary encounters with racism and sexism in educational settings. Utilizing a racial and gender affinity group, and informed by womanist thought theory, the study illuminates Women of Color's encounters in graduate school, work environments, and mathematics education within a Predominantly White Institution (PWI) devoted to anti-racist practices. The findings emphasize the importance of racial and gender affinity groups in fostering supportive environments, leading to increased self-empowerment, reduced imposter syndrome, and greater connections to self and community for the participants. This research underscores the need for intentional efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity within academic institutions.
