In this systematic review, we synthesize 21 peer-reviewed articles published between 2015-2022 that examine assessment of digital competency-based microcredentials. We define microcredentials as web-based instruction that is not part of a course. We narrowed our focus to digital competency-based micro-credentials, as this is an emerging area with implications for supporting lifelong learning and workforce development. Our findings highlight the content areas, learner types, issuers of the credential, and how they were evaluated. The focus on assessment of competency-based microcredentials provides insight that will be of interest both to learners and administrators of these credentials.
