This research study compares predictors of teacher job satisfaction in China and the United
States, two dominant countries with severe teacher shortages. The study aims to understand
factors influencing teacher job satisfaction within the context of cultural and political differences
of both countries. An online survey was distributed to 1,493 teachers (500 from China, 993 from
the US). Results indicate significant differences in teacher job satisfaction between the two
countries, with the US having higher satisfaction levels. Both intrinsic motivation and work
environment factors, such as autonomy and school culture, emerged as important predictors of
teacher satisfaction in both countries. The study highlights the importance of improving working
conditions to address teacher shortages and increase teacher morale in both countries
